Want to make a statement about who you are and the home you live in?

Choose a backsplash.

Sure, a backsplash is considerably small compared to other areas of your home, but it can be the focal point of a place where you spend a lot of your time: the kitchen.

Whether you choose minimal or bold, simple or splashy, we have some tips to help you choose the perfect backsplash for your unique home.

HOW TO CHOOSE THE PERFECT BACKSPLASH

First of all, you might want to wrap your head around the fact your kitchen might look like a construction zone – or at the very least a very creative hub – during this time.

One of the best ways to find that perfect backsplash is to try colors and samples on.

Grab your tape and start color matching and mix tile materials to see what sits well with you.

Remember: use natural light to see what each color and material looks like!

5 TIPS FOR THE PERFECT BACKSPLASH –

1. FIND THE RIGHT SIZE

Determine your backsplash square footage and buffer an extra 10 percent (you never know). This will give you an estimate of the amount of material this will require.

2. CONSIDER YOUR HARDWARE, LIGHTING, AND COUNTERTOPS

Don’t forget to tie it all in. Remember your countertops and fixtures play a design role in your backsplash choice as well. Aim to coordinate and blend your kitchen pieces, so you have a connected flow.

3. EXPLORE YOUR ARTISTIC SIDE

We’re going to be contradictory and say contrast works, too. If you want a flare to your kitchen, consider a backsplash that contrasts with your kitchen countertops. This is your perfect chance to mix up and try on different materials and colors.

4. FIND THE CENTER OF ATTENTION

There’s a sweet spot (or two) in your kitchen; the place where eyes automatically gravitate towards. These areas can be found above the sink and above your range. Focus on those areas to bring your ideas to life.

5. THINK BIG PICTURE

What will be the lifetime investment for your backsplash? First, think about the grout you’ll need (not the place to skimp on cost) and how that is what will literally keep your backsplash together.

Second, what will each material require? Granite tile will need to be resealed once a year, while other material will require other timing. Be sure to ask your tile expert what they recommend.

BONUS TIP: Work with your local tile expert. Ask questions, gather samples, let the materials have time and space to get comfortable in your kitchen.

Because rushing into a backsplash decision is not something you want to do!

When it comes to your perfect backsplash – have fun, mix things up, make it your own and go at your own pace.
